The Situation
Ketten Wälder GmbH, based in Bad Endorf, Germany, is renowned for its solution-oriented and top-quality products, including lifting gear, anchoring systems, pumps, and conveyor chains. For lifting chains, custom solutions are often required, as the length and strength of the chains and accessories can vary significantly depending on the load. To make the ordering process for such solutions more intuitive and visual, the chain manufacturer is now implementing a solution from Polymode..
Our Approach
The focus of this project was on realistic representation and real-time automatic generation of the final product. Together with Ketten Wälder GmbH, we outlined the user flow to define the configuration process. Based on static calculations, our development team created a logic to realistically arrange and align chain links and strands. Simultaneously, CAD drawings of all components were converted into detailed 3D data, balancing realism with load times. The result is impressive—accessible even on mobile devices.
The Result
The finished configurator excels in both the quick loading of 3D objects and the simplicity of user navigation. Customers can effortlessly assemble their desired lifting gear from the available components and add the final result directly to their cart. With realistic materials and thoughtfully designed lighting, the representation matches the real counterpart in quality.

A studio-like lighting setup and the use of ambient occlusion with high-resolution materials produce a very realistic result. This approach is especially effective for objects viewed up close.
Automatic Generation
By entering new parameters, the object is dynamically regenerated in 3D view in real-time. This includes accurate alignment and spacing of individual chain links, even as their lengths change.
Highly Customizable
If new hooks or shackles are added to the inventory in the future, they can be easily integrated into the existing framework.
